The intense sunlight, vibrant Spanish culture, and daily routines directed by the sun in Sevilla inspired research into the different spiritual practices and rituals associated with the sun. Inspired by indigenous Otomí paper making practices in Mexico, I hand made paper combining old drawings, written thoughts as well as orange blossoms, leaves and peels into the paper, creating a tangible artefact of my experience living in Sevilla.
This Ritual of Paper-making incorporates the four elemental forces similar to many Aztec ceremonies and rituals. The rituals purpose is to weave ancestral connections, ground the maker into the present, and break the patterns of daily life.
